In November, 2009, long-time Ontario wine industry pioneers Allan Jackson and Andrew von Teichman turned a brief conversation over a cup of coffee into a compelling virtual winery business plan. Modelling themselves after global market leading virtual wineries like Kim Crawford from New Zealand and Wolf Blass from Australia, the duo set to work on navigating how to make wine without vineyards or a winery in Niagara.
Within months, they had developed a label, sourced ultra premium wine from five well respected wineries, and secured an agreement with a leading winery to rent equipment and space. With overwhelming support from the LCBO, Union White VQA and Union Red VQA was listed and will be launched in August 2010 throughout the province for $13.95.
